We Can Responsibly End The War In Iraq!
We Can Prevent Climate Catastrophe!
* UUSC (the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee)
The moral and spiritual case for action on our climate crisis could hardly be clearer. Every religious tradition teaches us to hold sacred the wonders of creation, and progressive religious communities have long acknowledged the spiritual nature of this crisis when they invoke reverence for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
And this is also a matter of justice, because of how climate change will affect rich and poor so differently.
The changes to the atmosphere that we have created, and which have fueled our unprecedented prosperity, will increasingly displace millions, disrupt their food production, and promote the spread of disease into their communities, affecting most directly those least able to cope. It’s a simple matter of justice that those people deserve something better than a generation of political leaders who look at the greatest challenge humankind has ever faced, and sit on their hands.
