* UUSC (Unitarian Universalist Service Committee)
Just Democracy provides a vehicle for activists from progressive faith communities to extend their advocacy and civic engagement further into the democratic process. We provide a sustained and values-based voice in a variety of public forums and activities. Our mission: build political power for faith-based progressives.
Since 2006 Just Democracy has:
Organized door to door canvasses with its members alerting and educating voters in key districts about important choices facing them in upcoming elections.
Provided financial and paid-media support to four progressive candidates for the NH Legislature, three of whom won office.
Partnered with America Votes-NH, a coalition of 24 organizations working together, to train and elect progressive candidates to public office at the local, state and federal level.
Trained and educated our members and strategic allies in civic engagement and voter contact programs and related “tools” of opinion research, targeting, communications and media.
Worked with a variety of congregations in New Hampshire and throughout New England to bring their voices into public debates on climate change, ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, ensuring marriage equality, economic and environmental justice.
Built a membership base at the state level.
Established itself as a “hub” for political action by progressive faith-based activists.
In 2009 – we continue to expand our numbers, programs, activities and resources in order build political power for faith-based activists in order to establish progressive policies and elect progressive champions in 2009 and 2010.
In 2010 we have temporarily suspended our program activities to enable the organization to better integrate its activities with UUSC’s mission and programming in order to enhance the effectiveness of both organizations. We continue to consider new programming ideas and opportunities for 2010 and beyond. Please contact us if you would like to discuss potential opportunities in your state or region.
Please check back for program updates.
